Family Man

Every dad should watch this video.

I am a family man
I traded in my mustang for a minivan
This is not what I was headed for when I began
This was not my plan
I am a family man

But everything I had to lose
Came back a thousand times in you
And you fill me up with love
Fill me up with love
And you help me stand
’cause I am a family man

And life is good
That’s something I always knew
But I just never understood
If you’d asked me then you know I’d say I never would
Settle down in a neighborhood
I never thought I could

But I don’t remember anymore
Who I even was before
You filled me up with love
Filled me up with love
And you help me stand

So come on with the thunder clouds
Let the cold wind rail against us, let the rain come down
We can build a roof above us with the love we’ve found
We can stand our ground
So let the rain come down

Because love binds up what breaks in two
So keep my heart so close to you
And I’ll fill you up with love
Fill you up with love
And I’ll help you stand
‘Cause I am a family man

I’m saving my vacation time
For Disneyland
This is not what I was headed for when I began
This was not my plan
It’s so much better than

Weekly Ramblings (31 Aug)

Howdy!

I hope you all are doing well this week. The sky is blue, and the sun is shining (at least it is here in Nairn!).

Great turnout at the Free North Church Hall last Sunday for YF. We had a rousing game of Minister’s Hat, followed by a time of singing. Our teaching was on the Trinity, one of the great mysteries of the Bible. It is important to learn about the Trinity, because it helps us to know God more and to be able to defend what we believe. I will attach a discussion sheet next week that you may use to talk about as a family.

This Sunday we are in Muir of Ord for the annual Urray Free Church joing YF. We will need to make a move immediately following the evening worship service. Thanks in advance to those who can provide lifts!

Points of No Return

  • We are still needing families to do YF Food this term.
    • 12 Sep, 26 Sep, 3 Oct, 21 Nov, 28 Nov, 5 Dec, 18 Dec (Christmas Party Food)
  • The YF Website is up and running!
  • We still have three openings for Small Group Sunday Lunch on 12 September, so please let me know ASAP if you would like to have the youth over for lunch:
    • S1-S2 Girls, S5-S6 Girls, and S5-S6 Boys
  • If you would like to give to the Compassion fund, please bring whatever you would like to donate. There will be a Compassion cup at the school for the worship services and available at YF.
  • THRiVE will meet next Friday, 10 September, at 7:30pm in the Old Manse in Nairn. There will be a time of singing, planning, and prayer, followed by food and games.
  • The missions meeting for the Athens trip has been changed to Wednesday 15 September due to the community groups on the 8th. Your application will be due on this date. If for some reason you are unable to attend, please let me know; you will be excused due to the date change.

Weekly Ramblings (24 Aug)

Howdy!

I trust everyone had a restful weekend after their first week of school. I hope your week has gotten to a great start.

It was great to see so many out Sunday evening at the Free North Church for our first YF of the year. Remember, we are building-less until at least the middle of February, so we will be creative with where we meet for the next few months. I apologise for changing things up this past Sunday. We will be in Muir of Ord for YF a week Sunday, 5 September. This has shifted a couple things for us, so make sure you read the notes below!

Points of No Return

  • We are needing someone to donate food for YF this Sunday. If you are able to do this, please let me know ASAP!
  • The YF Website only needs a few more tweaks before going back online. Stay tuned!
  • Office Hours continues tomorrow, Wednesday, 3:45pm in the Eastgate. Bring a friend!
  • The Small Group Sunday Lunch has been shifted to 12 September. If you are available to host a Sunday lunch on that day, either sign the sheet in church or let me know via email.
  • If you are able to host a Youth Fellowship at your home, please let me know or sign the sheet in church. If you would like, you can join with another family and we will break the YF up into two groups for the evening. This may help with numbers.
  • We are going to have two Compassion Sundays in a row — this Sunday and next Sunday. This will give the youth a chance to donate to the Compassion fund to support Wilner in South America. Hopefully we will find out more about Wilner soon and will have a chance to send him a letter.

Coming Up

  • Wednesday
    • Office Hours, 3:45pm at Eastgate Centre
  • Friday
    • Roots, 7-9pm at Inshes Church
    • Unit 4 Youth Café, 7:30-9:30 at King’s Fellowship, Smithton Industrial Estate
  • Sunday
    • YF, 8pm at Free North Church Hall, Bank Street

You are being prayed for!

Soli Deo Gloria,

Ethan

Weekly Ramblings (17 Aug)

Howdy!

I hope you all had a great summer holiday and are ready for the school year. You will be receiving a letter in the mail from me this week regarding what the YF plan is while we are building-less, so keep an eye out!

A few things to say this week, so I’ll try to make this short and sweet.

Points of No Return

  • For parents/leaders interested in donating food for YF, hosting a YF, or hosting a small group for Sunday lunch, there will be sign up sheets in church this Sunday.
  • The Parents Meeting last Wednesday went really well. Thank you to those who were present and participated in the discussion about the next few months in YF. Attached is a pdf of the meeting agenda.
  • The first ever YF Leadership Retreat, held in Shawbost, Isle of Lewis, was a blast. The youth learned about some of the history of Lewis, how to pitch an 8-man tent, how to build a beach campfire at midnight, and (most importantly!) about the role the Holy Spirit plays in Christian leadership. We want to make this an annual event, so hopefully more will be on board (literally) next summer! You can find pictures from Lewis on our Flickr site here.
  • You will notice that the YF Website is currently under construction. I made a big error as I was moving the website from one server to another, so I have to redo everything. Hopefully we’ll get that up and running in the next few weeks.
  • Office Hours will continue next week, Wednesday 25 August. Same Bat time. Same Bat channel. (don’t worry if you didn’t understand that reference)
  • I am working on something for Dead Chuffed/Girls Alive, so stay tuned.
  • Youth Fellowship is back on this week! It is our annual joint YF with the good folks at Urray Free Church in Muir of Ord. We will leave immediately following the evening church service, and we will need leaders/parents to give lifts to Muir of Ord.

Coming Up

  • Sunday, 8pm
  • Joint YF at Urray Free Church, Muir of Ord

  • Wednesday 25 August, 3:45pm
    • Office Hours at Eastgate Centre
  • Friday 27 August, 7-9pm
    • Roots at Inshes Church
    • Sunday 29 August, 8pm
    • YF (Free North Church Hall)

Enjoy week one of school and know you are being prayed for!

Soli Deo Gloria,

Ethan

Change of Venue

We’ve moved servers, which means there will be more construction here. Hopefully this will be the last move we make.

Check back for more updates!
